The origin of this quote goes back to biblical or Roman times, where Lions and Lambs were intermingled. But it’s recent attribution probably goes to author/philosopher Vernon Howard (and not Tywin Lannister) as:
A truly strong person does not need the approval of others any more than a lion needs the approval of sheep.
A truly strong man looks inward and not outward for their life direction and purpose. They are true to themselves and don’t seek approval nor validation for their direction in life or what they put out in front of people. Some of the smartest men I look up to and admire have discussed how it is a happiness drain to worry about other’s opinions. That’s a powerful message we need to all remember.
If I can’t be me, because I’m caught up in trying to do something else, in essence I’m not me. I won’t have the same type of effect. Faking it till you make it works for awhile, but if you continue just faking it and don’t learn from your efforts, it becomes a cancer and changes who you are. You need to be authentic to your message, and hopefully that’s enough.
For me, I have varied interests, goals, and messages. I recognize I’m all over the board, my writing rambles a little, isn’t concise, and varies from day to day. My posts are longer than “ideal” to generate traffic, and typically aren’t a list or acronym that shows up so well in click-bait type sites. But my posts are authentic, usually have a story to tell, and hopefully provides value to you, the reader.
I continue to hone this craft, if you want to call it that, and things will change as they inevitably do. Or maybe not. Not every post is going to hit home, and that’s ok. I don’t get too many haters, and I don’t troll for traffic like Danger and Play (not that there’s anything wrong with that, that’s Mike’s style and it’s working really well for him). I just do what I do, and know that will be enough. That by pitching to the universe I know stuff will happen, making single steps in the right direction on my own path.
You are a Lion too. I know you are not sitting there on the sidelines, but are trying to look inward at who you are going to be tomorrow, the next day. Future-you takes up a lot of thought and therefore you make decisions that future-you will look back on and say “I’m glad you did that.” It’s not easy, but it’s the right thing. So keep trucking in the right direction. Keep ignoring the sheeple. Find things that fill your soul and think for yourself. Skip happy hour and do sprints hour or lift hour. Find men of similar ilk and bond… for heaven’s sake, do manly things and bond. It’s a lost art these days -being a man. And enough of the tender, lovemaking all the time. You’re a LION! LIONS ROAR as they take their lioness to poundtown.
Make it happen my brothers, you’ll feel better when you throw caution to the wind, and your woman will thank you for it too.
