After ten days off it’s a harsh slap in the face to come back to reality. I didn’t check work e-mails and left all that side of things at work as I needed to not have that cloud over my head. The weather was great, and we spent many long days just playing at the beach and relaxing. Now it’s back to digging out from the avalanche of e-mails and deadlines looming, kids starting back in school and activities and tightening up the diet and exercise again after what seems like half the summer of slacking.
The tenor of any vacation varies to a degree, partially with what is wrapped up in our own minds and baggage we bring with us and partially based on aspects of vacation that happen. For example, we went camping one year in a heavily wooded campground that choked out the sunlight, with many mosquitoes, some bear issues near the dumpsters and a poor beach area. Add in the fact that it rained off and on while we were there and most of us were not real happy and we still talk about how much that vacation sucked. Despite the nature of just relaxing and fishing, I just felt things were slightly off. Part of it is switching gears from go-go-go to ‘we have to do NOTHING’ took some adjusting. Part of it was both Holly and I feeling a little fatter than normal for us and that we need to get back to being healthier. Part of it was the looming end of summer and start of the busy routine again. Part of it was probably too much drinking and partying.
So this week will be all about getting back into the groove, which is a good thing. I have some thoughts for posts rattling around my head, but not sure when I’ll have time to get after them. Hope the start of school goes well for all you other parents out there…I know the time goes by fast even if it seems like the day to day stuff goes by slow.
