So Dum-Dum the dog is getting fixed here very soon. As such, we’ve explained to our kids just a little nibble at the corner of what the surgery entails. Daughter Birdsnest, who is seven and a half, is bright enough to figure out the shape of what the surgery is all about and of course it piques her curiosity. She asks Holly at bedtime “So Mom, how do babies get made? People babies I mean.” Holly essentially responds with “Look! A shiny object!” distraction technique and it works… for now.
So we’re about to have a conversation about the bids and the bees with her soon I’m sure. We’ll do fine, I’m sure, and keep it age appropriate, but was wondering how others who have gone through this have done it or if there any words of wisdom or funny stories.
