Netflix has been great for our family. It’s let us cut the cable and still have programming that the whole family enjoys. The new series House of Cards is a Netflix original series that rivals similar productions HBO and Showtime have put out there. My kids are very retro and are into shows that I liked as a kid (He-Man and She-Ra are often on in our house), and somehow they watched some Looney Toons and loved it as well. We have to find that from the library collection, but they get their fill.
Warner Brothers must have used their licensing authority to make some new versions of the cartoon in the last few years. One of the videos we got were brand new to me, and one of the episodes was right out of the ‘sphere. In it, Bugs Bunny meets a hot girl bunny and they go out on a date. “Nice hair” Bugs says to her. “Thanks, they’re my ears” she replies. Dry humor at it’s finest, and me and Loudboy both laughed. He finds out right away she’s bat shit crazy (BSC) and does his best to run from the situation. The whole episode he’s doing what he can to make excuses, hide and break up to the BSC bunny to no avail. He dines and dashes, thinking he’s seen the last of BSC Bunny, only to see her again in the grocery store. She sees they both have milk and bread in their carts and it was “Wow, we BOTH like Milk… and BREAD?! We’ve got so much in common and are meant to be together!” Loudboy was especially enjoying her shenanigans.
Next, Bugs dresses up like a girl bunny [FLASHBACK: Couldn’t help but think of Wayne’s World where Garth asks Wayne if he thinks Bugs Bunny is attractive when he dresses up like a girl bunny], to tell BSC Bunny what an asshole Bugs was to her. Bugs then returns as himself and BSC Bunny loves it even more because now Bugs is the “Bad Boy” and she’s never been with a Bad Boy before.
Finally, despite his efforts to extract himself from her, Bugs gets railroaded into marriage. The individual getting them prepared for the wedding is Pepe LePew, who knows how great marriage is because he says he’s been married seven times. Seeing Pepe’s position of authority and romantic view of her, as he’s pressing her hard with his Don Juan ways, she jumps ship to be with Pepe. Hypergamy at its finest in a kids cartoon.
