I’ve got a number of things brewing this week, but it being Cyber Monday at all, I thought I’d give you some great ideas for things that may better yourself or your health, or things that may add some spice to your life. I love Amazon and Costco and except for the local brew shop I have little reason to shop elsewhere much to the chagrin of local owners. But don’t think I have any special deals or anything like that, just some stuff from my own personal vault, some of which you may have seen mentioned here before. And nothing for kids here. Kids want toys, if you can’t figure out some kid gift ideas, just pick LEGOs, failsafe. And for full disclosure, like many other bloggers, I get a small fee from Amazon if you decide to click through and purchase. I’d recommend this stuff anyway and some of the stuff isn’t sold through Amazon.
Starting Strength, 3rd edition: This is THE book if you want to put on muscle and lift heavy (and do it right) and break down the key lifts into minute detail. Seriously, this isn’t Muscle and Fitness telling you to do dumbell kickbacks f0r your triceps. This is Mark Rippetoe breaking down in detail 63 pages on the back squat, 38 pages on how to deadlift, 27 pages on the bench press and another 15 on the shoulder press. In addition, it breaks down his basic programming and detailed supplementary exercises. I’ve bought two versions of this books so far and will likely buy more as I keep lending it out and not getting it back. Can not recommend this one enough for the experienced or novice powerlifter.
Chaos and Pain e-books: Jaime Lewis is a home grown powerlifter and his website Chaos and Pain is as informative as he is “interesting” (..and by interesting I mean he shows still porn shots randomly in his blog posts). However, his shit is really tight and he wants you to get big and strong and he’s like the Athol Kay of lifting – telling it to you straight without a filter with some really random and entertaining stuff in there. You can buy his e-books directly from his website. While I can’t speak for his new one “Destroy the Opposition [powerlifting guide]” I’ve personally purchased “Issuance of Insanity [general training and crazy lifting guide]” and found it well worth the $12.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment: I know you’ve heard me reference this before, but this really helped me get my head right and is something I need to read or listen to by audiobook about once a year like I used to do with The Hobbit (from 4th grade to maybe freshman year in college). Would recommend to those looking for some general life principles to stick by.
Another “must have”, for single and especially married or soon-to-be-married, dudes is The Married Man Sex Life Primer 2011 or by Kindle if you prefer. Lays out the blueprint of interspousal sexual relationship. In the same vein, I can’t recommend No More Mr. Nice Guy! enough for the guy who wants to learn how to be a better version of himself without being a pushover.
For eating, and getting healthy, there’s really only three books I’ve read multiple times and would give (and have given) to loved ones: Mark Sisson’s The Primal Blueprint, Robb Wolf’s The Paleo Solution and Sarah Fragoso’s Everyday Paleo (and her companion book Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook: Real Food for Real Life). Start the new year with better eating. These books lay out the why and how this is good for you.
Supplements for getting lean and strong:
Whey Protein: I really like Metabolic Nutrition – Protizyme – Peanut Butter Cookie, 2 lb powder but a more affordabal option is Dymatize Nutrition Gourmet Elite, Chocolate Peanut Butter, 5-Pound (twice as much for slightly more). I can’t speak for the difference in flavor, but Dymatize is definitely good in general but the Protizyme tastes (as Tony the Tiger would say:) “Great”.
Fish Oil: we really like Coromega fish oil and it tastes great and absorbs better than the tablets from Costco we also get. Reduces inflammation and balances out the “bad” fats we still get. Is really the only kind Holly eats.
We don’t recommend too much from Amazon, but typically only purchase:Almond Meal/Flour and Nutiva Certified Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. We use the coconut oil for cooking but hear it’s really excellent for lube (but haven’t been able to try until we ditch the condoms…soon). We also buy Coconut Flour from Amazon, which along with the almond flour, resulted in us totally eliminate flour and wheat from our diet (most of the time), which makes us feel so much better.
Pads: Holly has been asking for a pad for awhile. I keep thinking she means a pad(dle) like this:
But, noooo…. she want’s a PAD, like a tablet (booo!!). We’ll end up getting one of the new Ipads (not a surprise gift by any means), but I’m still partial to the Android platform this ASUS Transformer 10.1-Inch Tablet (for $330, with separate “dock” AKA keyboard AKA mini-laptop) is something I’ve been watching, and love (and other’s love) for a non-apple product.
Ok, you’ve probably got your stuff mostly figured out already, let’s not forget the more fun stuff that you’ll want to open away from the kids, like:
I Love Bacon Panties: sure to turn on the husband and make your wife smile
The Jelly Vibrating Ring: Looks weird, but can be really fun for a time or two … or so I’ve heard (for all of $8). Worth that price just to see the expression on your husband’s or wife’s face.
Eye Mask: We’ve tried scarves over the eyes, but that didn’t really stay in place well, I’d recommend a sexy eye mask like the one hyperlinked (pic below). If that’s not your cup of tea (a little too Hello Kitty for you?) they have other more plain ones. Can heighten the experience and changes things up a little.
Sexy School Girl Outfit: ok, what guy hasn’t had the sexy school girl fantasy? Another show stopper Santa can gift you. Here’s what you need for Christmas (wife may vary), size appropriately:
Couples XXX movies
We’ve got a few in our collection, a couple of stinkers and then ones I can actually recommend. If you want a real primer on couple’s porn for Christmas (always a good bet) I recommend you check out Ian Underwood’s porn blog. Otherwise, take my amateur and newbie recommendation of the ones below (which are I think the highest budget adult films made) and ones that I think most will like (though iI think if you by from Ian’s site he benefits so buy from him). These are full on couples porn, make no mistake, but has an actual plot, is very “couple friendly” but has some hot sex too along with fighting skeletons (hope that’s not a spoiler).
Pirates 2 – in case you couldn’t get enough of the first one. There’s a big roman-esque orgy type scene in this one.
What AMD wants:
Finally, my list is pretty short, I want a Springfield XD 9mm pistol like this:
and a 55# (or 1.5 pood… don’t get me started on what a pood is) kettlebell
Good luck this holiday season and on cyber Monday!
