Not sure what it is around the holidays, but I seem to have a thing for homemade liquor drinks. I posted on how to make homemade “get sauced” eggnog. Today I’m posting my recipe to make those awkward Thanksgiving moments with your weird uncle or estranged brother slightly more comfortable. I give you:
Average Married Dad’s Apple Pie Moonshine
1 gallon apple cider
1 gallon apple juice
1.5 cups brown sugar
8 cinnamon sticks
1 to 1.5 liter bottles of 190 proof grain alcohol (if legal in your state)
In a large stock pot, combine the apple cider, apple juice, sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Bring it to a boil, then take it off the heat and allow it to cool. Add the liter of high proof liquor. Pour this into mason jars, put the lids on, and let it mellow out. You could drink it right away, but it does get better after a couple of weeks.
This recipe makes about 9 quarts of apple pie moonshine.
As we get closer to Christmas, I’ll have to dust off my Hot Buttered Rum recipe.
